Grace Cathedral

Grace Cathedral is the largest Gothic structure in the West, and the third largest Episcopal cathedral in the U.S. Grace Cathedral sits on the top of Nob Hill in San Francisco, on California Street. The original Grace Cathedral, founded in 1849, was destroyed by fire in the 1906 earthquake.

Work on the present church began in 1928, and by 1964, the Grace Cathedral was completed. Modern murals by Keith Haring decorate the inside of Grace Cathedral, and multi-colored stained glass windows cast their beauty when the sun shines. Grace Cathedral’s outer bronze doors are replicas of the famous Ghiberti doors on the Baptistry in Florence.  A labyrinth circles the floor of Grace Cathedral, inviting visitors to find their way while meditating on their heart’s desire.

Concerts and educational talks are held at Grace Cathedral throughout the year, welcoming people of all backgrounds. Sunday services begin at 7:30 a.m. and the 11 a.m. mass is webcast live. Grace Cathedral is bordered by the well-manicured Huntington Park, which has a children’s playground and several fountains.
